What is Collegiumusicum?
Collegium musicum is Latin for music school. It is the name for a type of musical society that arose in the late Reformation and gained popularity in the late 18th century. These societies consisted of amateur musicians coming together to make music, and the enjoyment of playing music with fellow friends and collogues. Some of the most prolific of these societies included people like Bach and Telemann. They’d come together to write and perform music for each other. Thus is the inspiration for Colleiumusicum. To provide you with the ability to play music with your friends and collogues for the sake of making music with friends and family. As well opportunities to perform and meet other music makers.
Who is the teacher?
My name is Justin Bresee, and I am the teacher for Collegiumusicum. I received my Bachelors in Music Education from California State University at Dominguez Hills. I am a classically trained Bass Clarinetist and have performed on many instruments, and sung across the country including Carnegie Hall.
My education style is based in a good understanding of music theory, and fundamentals. I wish to give you the tools to be a complete musician, and be able to make music with your own creative confidence. We will start with the technical applications of your specific instrument, or voice. Then focus on form, and analysis so you can discover what will be the most effective notes at the most opportune times. I will also focus heavily on ear training so we can learn music by ear, to create and copy melodies we enjoy.
I am open to teach any instrument. I have played most common instruments including: Guitar, Electric Bass, Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass, Flute, Clarinet, Oboe, Bassoon, Saxophone, Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Tuba, drum kit, mallet percussion, and piano. If you wish to play a non-traditional instrument like harmonica, or accordion we can still make it happen. Send an email and we can discuss how best to get you playing your instrument of choice.
